Equal Childhoods (EqC) turns early childhood policy into practice. We are a multidisciplinary team of ECCE trainers, programme designers, researchers, and policy specialists working across government systems and the private and urban market.
EqC's work rests on tools developed and validated over four decades, not imported frameworks adapted after the fact: the Disability Screening Schedule (DSS), embedded in Navchetna and Adharshila and used by 1.4 million Anganwadi workers; the DIA (Detection-Inclusion-Ability) Training Module, field-validated with over 100,000 individuals screened in Delhi's urban slums.
EqC is founded and steered by Prof. (Dr.) Geeta Chopra, with a team that leads delivery, partnerships, and scale. Since founding EqC, Dr. Chopra has continued to write for national publications on early childhood policy and child protection, and in 2026 received the IFIP National Inclusion Award at the World Inclusion Conference India.
An internationally recognized pioneer at the intersection of Early Childhood Development (ECD), childhood disability, and policy reform, Prof. (Dr.) Geeta Chopra brings four decades of transformative academic and field leadership to Equal Childhoods (EqC). A Ph.D. in Human Development from the University of Delhi and AIIMS, and a superannuated Professor from the University of Delhi, her career seamlessly bridges academic rigor, government systems, and grassroots action.
Dr. Chopra is the creator of the groundbreaking Disability Screening Schedule (DSS)—now embedded in India's national ECCE curricula (Navchetna and Adharshila) and utilized by 1.4 million Anganwadi workers as the national standard for early detection. A key member of India's National ECCE Curriculum Committee, her strategic advisory footprint spans top international and national bodies including UNICEF, NITI Aayog, MoWCD, World Bank, UNESCO, NIPCCD, and MoHFW.
Her extensive knowledge corpus includes nine published books—featuring two authoritative solo volumes with Springer (Child Rights in India, 2015; Systems Approach to ECD, 2025)—alongside 3 translations, over 25 peer-reviewed papers, and prominent opinion pieces across leading national dailies like Hindustan Times, Deccan Herald, and Dainik Bhaskar. Globally, she authored the 2024 UNICEF HQ Global Policy Brief on parenting support for families of children with disabilities, and her lifelong advocacy earned her the prestigious IFIP National Inclusion Award at the World Inclusion Conference India (2026). Through Equal Childhoods, Dr. Chopra continues to redefine early childhood systems, ensuring every child—of every ability—is seen, supported, and included.
