Developed and validated the Disability Screening Schedule DSS

Developed and validated the Disability Screening Schedule DSS is now embedded in India’s national ECCE curricula (Navchetna and Adharshila), likely to enable over 1.4 million Anganwadi workers to detect disabilities early and refer for timely support.

Disability Screening Schedule (DSS)– a short proforma which gathers information using parental reports, observation of child’s behavior and a set of carefully selected items, questions or tasks to obtain systematic information on child’s abilities. It is short and quick to administer, easy to understand by non-professional staff, cost of screening is minimal and the test is a one time screening instrument for major impairments and disabilities (orthopaedic, visual, hearing, intellectual) for all children between birth-6yrs. The DSS has a very high Sensitivity(0.89) and very high Specificity  (0.98), which means that the DSS throws up very few ‘false positives’ and ‘false negatives’. Disability screening schedule.pdf
